  1. Thanks, I may well look into getting an additional SSD just for FSX then. I'm expecting big performance gains from this system so it will be interesting to see how FSX is handled! Paul2k12
  2. Ah ok, Yes I may well do that then, I'd prefer a large hdd as I do some photography too. Thanks for your input Paul2k12
  3. Thanks for your response. I wanted to benefit from the increased speed of the SSD, if like you say the difference won't be big the overall speed of the computer will be much faster than I am currently used to.
  4. Hi, I shall be ordering the following system primarily for FSX; Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit Samsung SSD 840 Series 120GB Solid State Drive Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM 64MB Cache Hard Drive Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Overclocked to 4.4GHz Gigabyte Z87-D3HP Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) Corsair 2013 Edition Gamer Series GS 600W '80 Plus Bronze Power Supply Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit Corsair Carbide 500R Midi Tower Case - Black Corsair Hydro H100i High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler EVGA GeForce GTX 770 Superclock ACX 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card I am looking to install the OS and FSX on the SSD for increased loading times etc however due to the smallish nature of the SSD am I correct in thinking I can install aircraft/scenery to the HDD and FSX would still be able to locate the necessary files etc? I'm probably going to be acquiring the PMDG 777 and 737 and would therefore place these on the SSD as I'm sure the access speed would benefit these particular aircraft. Many thanks for your comments/suggestions. Paul2k12
  5. I am currently playing FSX on a late 2011 15" Macbook Pro, its a Quad Core i7 2635QM running at 2.2Ghz. Unfortunately it only has an integrated GPU namely the ATI 6750m 512MB. FSX runs reasonably well especially with the default aircraft, having the sliders on medium can give me a solid 30fps. However introducing a payware aircraft (Airbus X Extended), and REX will slow it down to an unplayable slideshow (which is to be expected). I have an old PC that I am thinking about upgrading, new CPU, MB, RAM & PSU. I have a Geforce GTX 460 1GB Graphics card that I am hoping to re-use and I'm thinking about coupling it together with an i5 3570K, New MB and 8GB RAM. Utilising my old graphics card do people expect me to run FSX at a decent enough frame rate to have smooth flights, 30fps+. I am looking to purchase some PMDG products and I am very aware of what they will do to the fastest system. The other alternative is to get the i7 3770K but not really sure how much this would improve over the i5. Many thanks for your assistance. Paul2k12.
