November 1, 200421 yr Hello Avsim friends :)Would anyone on here know of a detailed website that listed the aircraft-types of *major* airlines in the world? Im asking because of some difficulty Im facing (and other FS9 newbies might agree on this).I like adding heavy jets to my FS9 like Posky, iFDG, Meljet etc. Like all of you I strive to make them as real as possible and to this end sound is very important to me. I have downloaded all the soundsets for different engine makes on the 747-400, 777, A330 etc.And this is where Im having a little difficulty. Because I need to know what make of engine an airline uses so I can use the correct soundset. The Rolls Royce-engined 747s are no problem because of their distinctive barrel-shaped pods (which i check on airliners.net photos)...but the GE & P&W turbofans are sometimes hard for me to tell apart and in the quest for realism I dont want to insert P&W 747 sounds into whats really a GE-powered 747.I have Googled of course - but not with usable results. So I guess Im wondering if anyone knows of a website that has details like this (for example):747-400--------British Airways - Rolls Royce RB211-524HNorthwest Airlines - Pratt & Whitney PW4056Virgin Atlantic - General Electric CF6-80-C2B1F777----British Airways - General Electric GE90Cathay Pacific - RR Trent 884United Airlines - Pratt & Whitney PW4074I think you can see what Im getting at! It would make configuring add-on airliners for FS9 so much easier! Thanks!!!!

The Manufacturers for many birds post their specs. You will have to do a little calculating from the generic sites above if you are not in the geographic region applicable. (Metric to USA domestic etc.).I usually edit aircraft.cfg's for any new bird with the best specs I can find as many are completely out of bounds. Some are overweight with limited fuel and only the pilot, while others will fly with a plane load of elephants as passengers.Hope this helps:RTH
November 2, 200421 yr Thanks very much Rhodges! Those websites are going to come in very handy! I wish I was competent enough to edit the .cfg files to increase realism but Im still learning how to fiddle those! Until then I know I may be flying planes with unrealistic behaviour (I like your elephants analogy).:)
November 2, 200421 yr Author Number one thing to remember and always do, regardless of how simple what you are doing may seem to be:Any file or folder you intend to edit or modify in any way, SAVE A BACKUP COPY of what you already have. If things turn to something that smells bad, you can always put your original back in and be back to GO. The first thing I do after installing FS is to backup all critical files and folders calling them "Original Default.xxx" (xxx being whatever the extension is). When desktop crashes appear, almost always, you can go back to your defaults and by a process of elimination find the culprit. In this case for example, if you were going to edit an aircraft.cfg file, copy the file and paste it to your desktop. Then edit the original to what you want it to be. An alternative to this which I would highly recommend is to simply copy the entire aircraft folder of the bird in question to the desktop. Then if anything goes amiss, simply copy your desktop copy back in the aircraft folder and let it overwrite whatever you have done back to the original and start over if you want to. You can do this with any other prime folder as well, not just an aircraft. The following is an example of what I edited for the POSKY Continental 757-300 aircraft.cfg file. Data is taken from one of the sites in my earlier reply. Note that all I have included are the items I edited from the original. I used full payload with fuel makeup for MTOW for the range. With less load and max fuel, range will increase dramatically. (Of note is that the 300 has nowhere near the range of the 200 even though it carries more people).performance=Passengersn2-class conf: 239 n 12 - Firstn 227 - EconomynnMax Fuel Cap.: 11,489 galnMaxTOW: 270,000 lbnZFW: 209,987 lbnnMax Range: 2,925 nm[WEIGHT_AND_BALANCE]max_gross_weight = 270000.000empty_weight = 145459.000station_load.0 =64969.000000,0.000000,0.000000,0.000000[fuel]Center1 = 0.000, 0.000, 0.000, 7035.000, 0.000LeftMain = -3.000, -12.000, 0.000, 2227.000, 0.000RightMain = -3.000, 12.000, 0.000, 2227.000, 0.000Sometimes, you may need to adjust the thrust scaler for realistic power. This item may have to be added for some aircraft.cfg files.[jet_engine]thrust_scalar =1.000Likewise, sometimes you may need to adjust the fuel flow scaler for realistic fuel burn. (Range)[GeneralEngineData]fuel_flow_scalar = 0.895I also makeup an excel spreadsheet with aircraft specs.Obviously, out of your aircraft weight and fuel options on the FS9 toolbar, you can change your payload for an individual flight.Best of luck:RTH
