In FS2002 King Air, is there any way to tell if the spoilers are on or off....several times I've flown to altitude to discover the are on.There is no visual way that I can see on the wings, but is there a meter or something that I'm not seeing on the panel??

I was not aware that any turbo-prop aircraft were equiped with spoilers.----------------------------------------------------------------John S. I never noticed before, but you are right. The FS King Air does respond to the spoilers but there is no visual cue to know if they are armed or not. Research would provide the answer, a little skill with the panel.cfg would place a gauge. As far as turbo props not having spoilers... I know the MU-2 used spoilers instead of ailerons. The configuration provided the same effect, but at lower speeds was more responsive than ailerons. Wich contributed to many of the acidents is was in.I tend to stay away from turbo props, so my personal knowlege is limited. I do know of a hand full that does have spoilers in the traditional sense, as compared to the MU-2, though.

In FS9 also the turboprops have spoilers, and you can see their status in the throttle quadrant, also in all passenger jets I believethey have spoilers..Thanks for the response!!! Willey

The spoilers you refer to are actually `spoilerons` that work in conjunction with the ailerons at low speeds to enhance control. They are not `lift dump` spoilers as turboprops generally don't need to dump lift - they land slower than jets and have reverse or beta thrust. Pictures you see of these `spoilers` in action will actually be the ailerons being applied. One small error in FS is that these control surfaces are still `flagged` as spoilers in the sim, so you still get to operate some of them by pressing the spoiler key, even though they don't exist and have no effect on the flight model best I see.So, no spoilers on turboprops, with the exception of one or two Super-STOL aircraft (the Dash-7 has two pairs of spoilers. One serve only as spoilerons, the inboard pair can actually be used as lift dumpers)There ya go.Allcott

Easiest way to remove the "small error" is to make a change in the aircraft.cfg file. The line "spoiler_limit=60" is what causes the problem, only spoiler (spoileron)line that is not set to 0 (at least for the KA350--only one I have). Change that to "=0" and the problem should be gone. By default, the "spoilers available" line IS set to zero--but apparently having a value on the limit line overrides that, causing the flagging. BTW, this is the case in both FS2002 and FS2004Paul

  • 3 weeks later...

In FS8 and 9 when you hit the spoiler key, the flaperons or whatever it is come up and definitely slow the plane down..you will have a lower climb speed and lower top speed, and they help you slow down on the ground...but right...no way to know if they are up or down except by noting your speed....
