Can't control differential brakes with an xbox 360 controller

Featured Replies

Ahh... here we go again!

I don't have yoke & pedals yet, so until then, I'm using a dual shock 3. Now it is a great accessory because it has lots of buttons (enough for the basic stuff) + six-axis which allows very precise moves of the ailerons, rudder and elevator with just tilting and rolling the gamepad, thus freeing up buttons to do other stuff.

The problem however, I was using a shoddy little program called 'motion-in-joy'. It was written by some Chinese person and obviously, the guy is an amateur, because it works, but BSODs every now and then.. today it really managed to ###### me off to the extent I decided to completely uninstall it (well almost, it leaves out some registry junk, but so far nothing that seems harmful).

Anyway, M$, on their website you can find an officially made PDF on how to use the XBOX 360 controller in FSX. What they didn't take into account is differential brakes.

Since I uninstalled the MIJ software and now using new drivers (which so far work flawlessly - click here for more info). The thing is, with MIJ I could use the DS3 as a DS3 or (with a click of a button) as XBOX 360. With the new drivers, I can only emulate it as an xbox 360 controller.

Ultimately, the problem is, you have those trigger buttons which act like axis but in fsx control axis section, the brakes have separate definitions (left & right, unlike the rudder) so you can't assign the trigger axis to both brake definitions. Is there a way to hack the controls xml file for this to work ??? I can't fly planes like the AN-2 without differential brakes. :(
