pln file in flights dir

Featured Replies

I'm currently making some flight files, and want to move them into the main flights folder, but FS2004 can't find the associated pln files. It only seems to look in 'my documents'. However, the default flights don't have that problem. (I did look through the flt files, but seem to do everything correctly).Anyone knows what I'm missing?Cheers, Christian

Yes, you are misising the point that FS9 has all user developed and saved PLN and FLT files (these are not necessarily associated in this situation) in the My DocumentsFlight Simulator Files folder. Different in FS9 than in previous versions. All the flight folder has in the main directory is the MS developed default files--the ones installed when you install FS9. Your logbook file is also there. Regards,Paul

thanks.yes, I'd like to shift those files to the main FS2004 location. Reason being, I'd like to distribute those files and the 'my documents' location is user specific (ie a bad location if multiple users want to use those flights). For user flights this is indeed a good location. For redistributable add-on files it's not.Christian

Thanks for that.I tried solution 1, but FS9 doesn't find it in the fs9 flights dir, it only seems to look in 'my documents'. Of course, I could try specifying a total path (your solution 2), but that defeats the purpose of my exercise (ie a system independent installation for distribution). If this works for you I must be doing soemthing wrong...Cheers, Christian

Hi Christian,You should be able to do what you want. However, you need to manually change so things in your *.FLT file so it looks in the correct folder to get your *.PLN, *.WX, *.HTM, if you make all these files.I would look in the present Flight Simulator 9Flightsaerial folder for more informatin about how MS made the files and what you would need to change. Aerial01.FLT has associated files that you could use as a guide.I would make a new folder under the Flights folder for your special flights. You then select this folder from the Select a Flight menu. When you make your flights and associated plans using the Save Flights and Save Plans, they will be sent to the default My DocumentsFlight Simulator Files folder, you then need to copy them to your new folder under flights and manually modify them.W. Thanks. Yes, I did exactly that (and also checked other ones). That's why I'm quite confused it doesn't work. Maybe it has something to do with the version. None of the FS9 flt files have pln files. Something to try at least.Looks like I have to do some step by step debugging...Cheers, Christian

When the FLT file is placed in the FLIGHTS folder make sure the full path is not specified then FS9 will look in the directory where the FLT file has been saved.Check out the FS9FLIGHTSCARGO folder which has FLT and PLN files. Search for GPS_ENGINE and see how the PLN file is specified.Works for me!
