September 20, 201312 yr Hello there, I'm having the well known "excessive g-force and/or overspeed" issue flying a PMDG 737. Back when i purchased OpusFSX there was a version that did not have this issue, 2.8x or something. Since then (and 3.x branch), i've tried every Stable and Beta releases (with proper uninstall-install everytime), checking all stabilisation and sim friendly options i can, lowering wind change to 10knots/degrees per 16km, reading every topic i can find about it, but no luck. I still get jerky weather updates on a 1-5h flight, mainly at Cruise & Descent, and aircraft really doesn't like it. (Camera goes crazy, i lose altitude, ang gain instant 30 knots on speed) So now i lower every speed i can to "fix" overspeed, but it does not get me around the excessive g-force issue. Now i'm aware that FSX weather system has some flaws that we can't really fix, specially about updating, but this is one is really driving me crazy. And thinking there was a 2.x version that did not have this issue at all, i wonder. Thank you for your help.
September 20, 201312 yr Commercial Member All I could suggest is installing the very latest beta version which includes all the recent anti wind shift measures that have had very favourable results and feedback. You should also use the default weather update frequency and distance. The recommended distance has been reduced to prevent FSX drifting away from its target ambient winds, which it will do if you do not refresh or update the weather regularly, especially if you allow the aircraft to travel too far before updating. After installing the latest beta, it would be best to set all weather defaults in all weather related dialogs, including the default weather updates and the default Low Altitude Wind Smoothing. If you still have problems then first try setting the Use Maximum Stabilisation option and at a last resort the Stabilised GRIB Data option. If you use any monitoring package then try and do without it. It doesn't help forcing FSX to spend a great deal of its free time updating at a millisecond rate some package that just monitors your flight. Its much better to allow FSX to get on with the job of calculating and adjusting its ambient conditions. Stephen Do you have any other weather source ? Please check you have not enabled the FSX RW weather, or if you use FSInn you have not enabled its weather updates. Also make sure if you are using accelerated time in the sim you have the latest beta and also FSUIPC4 installed (do not enable any weather options in FSUIPC4 though). FSX does not update the weather correctly if operating in accelerated time, for that reason the latest betas first restore normal time before updating the weather, but it needs FSUIPC4 for that. But above all, using the latest beta, set the default weather update rates. You do not want to let FSX travel too far without a weather refresh or update, it has a tendency to slowly drift away and ignore its ambient wind targets if you do, then when the next weather update occurs it will generate wind shifts. I would also turn off Stabilised GRIB Data to try out the latest beta, only after you have checked all those other possible sources of weather update. You could also monitor the Local or Destination weather reports and keep an eye on your target and ambient winds taking note that FSX will be looking ahead. You can examine the Cruise Level Winds weather map to get an idea of what lies up ahead. Stephen
September 25, 201312 yr Author All right thank you for all the tips, very interesting stuff! I will try all your recommandations soon. Thank you for your time and support.
September 25, 201312 yr Commercial Member The latest beta mentioned above is now the latest release version 3.34. Basically set all weather defaults, use the default weather update time and distance (30 mins and 160km), specify your Max Cruise and Destination and update the weather. You should find 3.34 helpful.
