FS2k4 Planes in FS2k2?

Featured Replies

Hey All,I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm asking again. I did a search but probably never came up with the right keywords. I use FS2k2 (not pro) and see lots of cool fs2k4 planes and wonder about their compatibility with fs2k2.I'm curious about this in general and specifically the Maule M-7 at FSNordic. I'd hate to down load 60 megs and find out no go!A related question. I've been wondering about all the gauges that I've been dumping into the gauges folder. Does loading gauge after gauge ever cause problems? Seems to me like it could and I suspect eventually does? Maybe not - I don't know.Take Care! -Ed-

Some FS2004 models may work, if they are compiled with the SDK made for FS2002. Others won't, if they are compiled using FS2004's SDK (which is done to take advantage of some newer features FS2004 supports). Examples of aircraft which won't display include:All the default FS2004 modelsErick Cantu's 727, MD-80 (although he has older versions of both)Eaglesoft's CJ-1Flight1's 172And many more....As for gauges in the gauge folder, doesn't matter how many are there. Gauge files are little "programs" called up only when you load the panel which uses them. Except for hard drive clutter, you can have as many in the folder as you want.Note that some gauges made for FS2004 may not work in FS2002--notably GPS gauges, and the reverse is true in FS2004 unless the GPS gauge uses its own NAV database.-John

...and if you do want to clean the clutter (like when you remove a panel) there are a few gauge cleaning utils around - i use gaugeclean.regards,Mark

Mark

EdYou can buy FS2K4 real cheap now in the discount stores, and installing it won't effect your FS2K2 installation. If your system runs 2K2 OK it should be able to handle 2K4. I have both in the default Microsoft Games folder.David
