December 4, 200421 yr Hi everyone I have recently made the leap from Fs2000 to Fs2004. On my first flight I selected the Lear 45 ( I only fly this aircraft ). CLimbing from take off I select the desired heading, altitude buttons and vertical speed selector buttons. Confirmation that this has been done can be seen in the cockpit with the pink indents depicting what my desired heading and altitude buttons are. I hit the auto pilot button and everything kicks in fine except the climb rate. I have selected my Vertical Speed Hold Selector at 1,800 ft per min. Yet the Vertical speed indicator refuses to recognise this and the pink ident button remains at 0. This means should I wish to climb to say 31000 at a preselected climb rate of 1800 pm. The aircraft does not regonise this command. Same thing happens in descent too. I hope the attachment helps. I have the same problem with the FD button on. 1. I have removed and reinstalled Fs2004. 2. The function works perfectly on the other default aircraft. Thanks in anticipation. Tristan
December 4, 200421 yr Hi Boprey Thanks for taking the time to write and I appreciate your suggestion. I have spent half the night trying out different scenarios your idea has no effect what so ever. I feel like pulling my hair out. There is no just no way I can change altitude and determine the rate of climb or descent. I just can't seem to be able to get out the blocks with this sim and I don't see why I should change aircraft to do it. Please help...anyone !!!!!!!!!
December 4, 200421 yr Have you tried a different panel? If that works then you can compare the two panel.cfg's rather than the aircraft.cfg which seems ok being what you posted on the FLIGHTSIM forum.
December 4, 200421 yr Hi there. I just tried with the Lear and it workrd fine .I notice tat your pitch wheel is set very low as if the plane wants to descend and that might have something to do with it not wanting to climb.:-roll
December 5, 200421 yr Thanks Edam I was thinking the same thing and I downloaded Randy Burtons excellent panel so I was equipped with a new aircraft cfg and guages folder etc etc. I still have the same problem. Further more I have noticed that there is a discrepancy with the airspeed indicator and equivilant Mach no. There is no way 329knts is mach .84 My N1 readings are running at 84% from memory so I guess the mach reading is correct and the airspeed indicator is faulty. The latest attachment will explain all. Lemonadedrinker, thanks for your suggestion. I noticed the pitch seemed a little mis-alligned, I may be wrong but I am not sure that it should affect the ability to select a vertical speed setting. The latest attachment shows the Lear in a descent with a setting of -1800 and the pink indent not budging from 0. Allott thanks for your contribution. In my first post I said with the FD switch on I was still getting the same results...or lack of them !!!
December 5, 200421 yr I think that this is bugging me almost as much as it is you! It sounded like it would be a simple fix at first.
December 5, 200421 yr Further more I have noticed that there is a discrepancy with the airspeed indicator and equivilant Mach no. There is no way 329knts is mach .84 >>>>>>>Depends on the alt...In the pix, you were at 32k + FL...329 IAS is pretty danged hot at that alt for a lear...In fact, you were really overspeed I think...I was thinking max mach speed in a lear as mach .81-82 or so??? I don't fly the 45 much, but I fly the 31a a lot. I usually run about mach .77-78 at cruise...At the 40's + flight levels I'm usually at, my IAS will be quite low. Like under 250....I have seen the problem you are having, but not sure why it does it, or if it's really a "problem"...Maybe..About all I know to do, is to reset the ALT , so it recycles the rate of climb. Either that, or manually reset the ROC.Once I show the correct number in the window, I've never seen the sim not respond to it. So in a way, I've never had your problem, if you mean the setting is ignored, even if you manually dial the ROC. MK Mark Keith
December 5, 200421 yr Hi there. The Lear will do .81/464 knots according to the aircraft cfg in fs9! not that that helps you.One further point I will make is this.I uploaded the MAAM DC3 and since then I think it has affected the behaviour of the default DC3 in that now the panel lights will not work in the vc, so I'm wondering if you've downloaded something that has affected your Lear. have you tried your vsi in the vc? I wish I knew more .
December 5, 200421 yr I notice that when you change altitude with the ap on, the vsi bug has a default setting of +/- 1800 and will shift instantly to that setting so it seems to me that all other things being equal the cfg has become changed[autopilot]autopilot_available= 1flight_director_available= 1default_vertical_speed= 1800.0autothrottle_available= 1autothrottle_arming_required= 0autothrottle_max_rpm = 90autothrottle_takeoff_ga= 0pitch_takeoff_ga = 8;max_pitch=10.0max_pitch_acceleration=1.0max_pitch_velocity_lo_alt=2.0max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt=1.5max_pitch_velocity_lo_alt_breakpoint=20000.0max_pitch_velocity_hi_alt_breakpoint=28000.0max_bank=25.0max_bank_acceleration=1.8max_bank_velocity=3.00max_throttle_rate=0.10nav_proportional_control=11.00nav_integrator_control=0.20nav_derivative_control=0.00nav_integrator_boundary=2.50nav_derivative_boundary=0.00gs_proportional_control=9.52gs_integrator_control=0.26gs_derivative_control=0.00gs_integrator_boundary=0.70gs_derivative_boundary=0.00yaw_damper_gain = 1.0These are the settings from mine and if they help, great.
December 5, 200421 yr Can I just say guys...Thanks for all your help to date. This is the first time I have been on a avsim forum and your support has been fantastic. When we get this sorted perhaps you can help me find a suitable xmas present for my girlfriend as I am scratching my head with that as much as this $$$$$$ vsi bug !!!!!!!! I know my default cfg vsi is 1800 I will compare the other settings to make sure and upon further checking the Mach number/airspeed ratio is all over the place. 290knts/Mach.74 at flt lev 190 ...I don't think so. The only planes I have loaded up have been those AFTER the bugs appeared and that was to compare panels and cfg's. Still no joy. I am ready for some drastic action. Any(sensible)ideas will be gratefully receieved. Thanks again Tristan
December 5, 200421 yr I haven't the foggiest notion about what's causing your AP climb/descent problems but I don't think that you have an airspeed peroblem. Remember that the speed displayed on the instrument panel is "indicated" airspeed. It is derived by air entering the pitot tube and (I suppose) deflecting a diaphram. As you climb, there are fewer air molecules to press against the diaphram (thinner air) and so a lower airspeed in displayed. When someone above said the maximum airspeed for the Lear was 464k, they were refering to "true" airspeed, the indicated airspeed corrected for the given altitude. There is no instrument which displays true airspeed directly and so mach numbers are used to indicate speed at higher altitudes. My point is that when your Airspeed Indicator read 329k @ FL320, you were probably going over 500k true airspeed. R-
December 6, 200421 yr Taking a stab in the dark, what's your altimeter set at? I can't see it clearly on the pic there. Does this happen also on initial climb?
December 6, 200421 yr Hi there. Last idea :9 . The desired altitude is 28000; your altimeter reads 23900 I think and the bug is at zero. As you climb have you been resetting the altimeter?- I think 'b' is the default to push as if the pressure isn't right your altitude will show different .:-roll
