December 8, 200421 yr Author Have you run the display and sound tests in the DXDIAG.EXE DirectX diagnostic? What were the results? You can run the diagnostic through the Windows 98 or Windows XP System Information utility (probably available in Windows ME too) or type "dxdiag" in the Start Menu's "Run" popup. The diagnostic also has the ability to generate a log file listing your system specifications and the results of the display and sound tests. Of course you need to run the tests before generating the log file in order for the log file to contain the test results. You can copy & paste portions of the log file to a forum post to provide the information people will need to assist you.Forum members with similar hardware will be able to compare your settings and driver versions to yours if you post that information here. Make sure you also include CPU model, video accelerator chip description, video accelerator memory amount, sound chip description, main RAM memory amount and Windows version. It's common for new video accelerator drivers, sound accelerator drivers or DirectX versions to become available after the instalation CDs that came with your computer or aftermarket card were pressed. Most hardware manufacturers make updated drivers available on web sites. DirectX updates usually appear in Microsoft's Windows update function. Sometimes removeing and reinstalling a driver will resolve a problem. Make sure you use safe mode or otherwise temporarily revert to standard VGA video while changeing or reinstalling video accelerator drivers.
