December 10, 200421 yr I have been thinking about cockpit noises recently, and one of the biggest omissions I feel is the thump thump thump of the nose gear hitting the runway centres. How would it be possible to impliment this noise into FS?, obviously it would be a little more difficult than just adding a sound as the frequency of the thump increases with speed.Would certainly be something I am interested in....CheersDan.
December 10, 200421 yr Ive never programmed for FS, but Maybe some kind of hidden guage that takes in the Speed of the plane on contact with the ground, and plays a sound based on the speed of the plane. Maybe with some kind of crash destion if FS's internals offers such varibles and if it allows you to discover when a certin wheel is touching the ground. Also I guess with this method there would have to be many sounds to cover the differnt speeds on impact.Bah I dont know... just a thought, I have enough programming problems at the moment :( with my work, but im not complaining it keeps in the latest FS Addons :).Jason
December 10, 200421 yr No need to program, Peter James has created just what you are looking for. Do a search on his name for Ground Roll or Runway ground roll. Sound great and you can pop it into any aircraft.
December 11, 200421 yr Looks like there are two packages to choose from:http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=48419by Daniel Ernstest, "Ground Roll Sound for FS9" "bnrollnew.zip" 526 kband http://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=46974by Peter James "perfected ground roll sound" "runways_groundroll.zip" 1067 kbFYILarry
December 11, 200421 yr This is a good idea which is a standard feature of FS since at least FS2002!Make sure to check the Fs SDK related to sound...Hope this helps!
December 13, 200421 yr Does it do this with consideration for where the wheels are in relation to the center-lights? They are ussually off set to the right of the painted centerline stripe at the real airports I've flow to that have them.----------------------------------------------------------------John S. December 13, 200421 yr AFAIK, usually IRL the pilot deliberatly lands a little to the left or right of the centreline so that you don't get the "thump-thump" anyway. Annoys the PAX, and causes undue wear on the nosewheel oleo and tyres.Reminds me of a story I heard: A BA jet lands at EDDL, and ATC says to the pilot "You were a little to the left of the centreline on landing" And the pilot replied: "Yes, and my co-pilot was a little to the right!"BestGrahame (EDHL)
