December 16, 200421 yr Hi out there!Once again i need to bother you with a question regarding the use of fs2k4 planes in fs 2k2. This time its about the problem that the engines of piston-engined planes (single, twin or 4-mot, doesnt matter) never start. well i mean, the process of startup actually works, you see the props turning and hear the starter but the engine just doesnt ignite. this also is limited to some 2k4 planes, such as the katana, super dimona or the magnificent Lockheed L049 Constellation by FSDZigns. My question is now, if and what i have to change in the aircraft.cfg or if there simply is no workaround!I
December 16, 200421 yr I'm not sure I understand. Are you seriously trying to use FS2004 aircraft in FS2002? Whatever for? :) I don't believe anyone has ever offered retro-comptibility for latest version aircraft in previous sim versions. And there are many changes in technical details between the 2 sims, no matter how close the names might be.Allcott
December 16, 200421 yr Hi,Don't know about the rest of the planes, but if you replace the Connie's L049A.air file with a similar one from FS2002 (like the DC-6 AIR file), it will probably work OK. Just copy the DC-6 AIR file from it's folder into the Connie folder. Then you need to edit the sim= line in the aircraft.cfg file to point to the new AIR file.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
December 16, 200421 yr hi!yes, i thought about that as well, but was looking for a somewhat more elegant solution. if i wont find any i ll stick to your tip!thx!correct me if i m wrong:i could only cut out the section, whichever that is, thats responsible for the correct function of the engines. cos if i replaced the whole file, my position lights for example will be displaced. did i think that one right?RegardsMatthias
December 17, 200421 yr Hi,I don't think you need to replace the aircraft.cfg file (where the lights are), just the AIR file. Assuming the AIR file has a different name you only need to change the sim= line in the aircraft.cfg file to point to the new AIR filename. The rest can remain unchanged.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
December 18, 200421 yr Matthias,I can tell you that if you can get the FSDzigns L-049A to load in FS2k2, the panel that is included will not work properly. Some of the gauges will work but the fuel system will not as well as some others. The panel coding has references to functions that are only available in FS2K4.There is a Connie panel that may work in FS2K2 for the L-049A but I have not tested it. I think it is VNCON10. It should be available here at AVSIM. I will tell you that you will lose a lot of the realism that was incorporated in the FSDzigns L-049A if you fly it in FS2K2. Also, you will need to change the fuel_selectors = 4, to fuel_selectors = 1 in the aircraft.cfg file. I'm not sure about any other changes that will have to be made. You may want to consider purchasing FS2K4 just to gain the added realism in the newer planes and panels. The effects and panels are incredible. I can tell you that I held out for a long time on purchasing FS2K4 but it was well worth the money. You might even find a good deal after Christmas.Best Regards and Happy Holidays,Kent MorrisFSDzigns Technical Director
December 18, 200421 yr The problem may well be the differences in the fuel/air mixture treatment between the two sims. FS2004 air files will have these issues in FS2002.If you enable auto-mixture in the aircraft/realism settings, that may help.
January 16, 200521 yr hello!Yes, finally i stopped bothering around with fs2002 and bought acof.gues it was worth it. definitely!anyways, thanks for your help!sincerelymatthias
January 16, 200521 yr Just a little thought on this engine starting. The 2d cockpit in the default 172 has no fuel cut-off( well, none that I've found so far), so you can spin the engine all you want and it won't start, but go into the 3d cockpit and there below the throttle is the fuel cut-off! Push it in and away you go.
