December 21, 200421 yr I got the textures last night from avsim, made a backup copy of my sceneryworldtexture folder. Did a manual install of the textures, started FS, selected a flight and got a crash to desktop.... Ok no biggie, delete the texture folder, rename the backup to texture, restart Fs, load the flight, crash to desktop at around 50% just like before. Hmmmmm Ok lets try this, open CD 4, copy all the worldscenery*.bmp and *.agn files into the texture folder. just for giggles I rebooted. After restart, started FS, loaded the default flight again.... Poof.... CTD at the same point in the load. Please someone tell me that there is an easy fix for this, short of a re-install of FS.Brian
December 21, 200421 yr Hi Brian,I guess that you did a manual install by extracting the bmp's and agn's directly into the sceneryworldtexture folder. That's the way I did it (after a backup copy of the originals)... and had no trouble.I managed to download the files from the fsnordic site early (about 0800Z) yesterday. I made some tests over Spain and Switzerland and had no problems vith the new textures.Perhaps something else is causing you so much trouble. Sorry for not being of much help to you.
December 21, 200421 yr It seems to me there are only a couple of plausible options here. Either:1. You somehow managed to copy some of the textures to the wrong folder in which case switching beck to the original textures folder would not resolve the issue, or2. Something else is to blame that has nothing to do with the textures and its just one of those unhappy PC coincidences that it occured after installing them.did you by chance unzip any of the texture packs to the defualt location in the extractor? If so, you will have a C:Programs folder now which might cuase problems. Other than that, no idea...sorry.
December 21, 200421 yr FS was working fine before the install.... I was flying last night, then after I stopped that session I saw the files were up on avsim so I downloaded them did a manual install and got the CTD.... I played with it this morning and still can't get it working. I'm glad I don't throw anything away so while a re-install won't be painless.... but at least I haven't lost anything.Brian
December 21, 200421 yr Please someone>tell me that there is an easy fix for this, short of a>re-install of FS.>>BrianI have found, in the past, with a problem like yours Brian, that the first thing to do is rename the fs9.cfg and let FS rebuild a new one.I have done it a couple of times with a similar problem and it corrected the fault but I am none the wiser what the fault was. The only downside is having to reset all your config settings.Ray.
December 21, 200421 yr Brian,Did you copy Lennart's textures to your World/Scenery/Texture folder and overwrite any original textures? You need to overwrite the original textures as he did not replace all the original textures and FS9 still needs some of the original textures. Also check your scenery.cfg file in the main FS9 folder and make sure it's not corrupted (i.e., areas/layers match and in sequence).Hope this works for you.Jim
December 21, 200421 yr Deleting the cfg and letting FS rebuild another one has allowed me to get FS up and running. However when ever I go back into the cfg to edit anything (like adding FSound to the old modules line) when I reload FS I get the Crash again... One of MS's features popping up again... And It may be the seasonal CTD cropping up a little since today is the first day of winter.Brian
December 23, 200421 yr BrianCheck your C drive and look for a folder called Program. Somehow after following the instructions I ended up mysteriously with this file folder. if you open this folder it will lead you right to flightsim folder and world texture folder. I deleted this folder and it seemed to solve the CTD issue.Don
December 23, 200421 yr >Brian>>Check your C drive and look for a folder called Program.>Somehow after following the instructions I ended up>mysteriously with this file folder. There was an error in the installer path of the textures that unpacked them to "program" rather than the fs defalt "program files".-
December 23, 200421 yr firehawk44 has a good point - because thats the mistake I made when I first installed Lennarts textures! I created a brand-new "texture" folder and installed into that - and FS9 CDT.It was only after closer examination that I realised that not *ALL* the original textures were replaced so I replaced the original FS9 texture folder and unzipped Lennarts textures into that - and said "Yes" to all overwrites. You might wanna check to see if you have made the same error!:)
December 23, 200421 yr I did all that... then I reinstalled all my default textures.... still CTD.... Then I realized. I did this on the First day of Winter. The Seasonal CTD strikes again, even after the patch.Brian
December 23, 200421 yr Hmmm, I installed these yesterday by dumping them all into the Texture folder. Works fine. No probs at all. I took off from Comox B.C. Canada to see how it all looked. Panicked a bit as I didn't see ANY changes. Then I remembered that I'd installed a Comox add-on scenery and flew out away from that field. Wallah! Changes all over the place. Ya're only gonna see those changes if ya gets up inta the mountings, ya know. They do provide the Rockies and the coastal range with some MUCH better coloration than the default.:D
