December 30, 200421 yr Does anybody know how to add scenery or the method to use to make scenery show up in the select location ,search addon scenery box. Some of the scenery i have purchsed shows up eg.uk2000 but some don't.It gets a bit annoying when trying to search for the airport you have just installed and not being able to go straight there through the addon scenery option.Any help would be much appreciated.
December 30, 200421 yr I think as long as you have added the scenery correctly so that it shows up in scenery .cfg you should be OK. Not all scenery automatically installs, some need the scenery .cfg entry adding by hand. A clue is that the sim states at startup it is rebuilding scenery database, so if it didn't show that on screen then your scenery hasn't been added yet. Which one is causing the problem?Allcott
December 30, 200421 yr Let's see. You downloaded "edinburgh airport".You unzipped it into My documents/Sim Scenery.(Sim Scenery is where I put stuff I download) Inside the "edinburgh" folder should be 2 folders -scenery and texture. Load the game. Click settings, then Scenery Library, then Add area, which opens a window where you can browse to My Documents/Sim Scenery and double click on it. Inside is your "edinburgh" folder. Just click once on that and then click okay (in the bottom corner of the box).If you then shift the window out of the way your "edinburgh" scenery should be at the top of the list with a red tick beside it.
December 30, 200421 yr Not all add-on scenery is created in such a manner as to show up as a separate entry within any given menu of the "World" link. However, the add-on scenery will still be reachable via its call-sign or even its name just as though you were "going to" the default airport by using the default drop-down menu listing. In the case of scenery objects that are not necessarily a part of an airport, there is usually an airport nearby from which you could fly in a general direction. If the coordinates of said object are known, these can be entered into the appropriate boxes from the "Map" menu and you will be taken to the exact spot.
December 30, 200421 yr Gcbarni i think you get what im trying to say,I got no problem adding scenery to get it to show up in the flight sim ,ehat i need to know is how do i get the scenery to show up in the addon scenery selection screen.I think it might be in the .bgl files for the scenery but i dont know how to get into them. Here is pic to show what im on about
December 31, 200421 yr That kind of information is now in other *.bgl files.....you are correct. And we don't have access to that info unless you begin disassembling them all(the default *.bgl's)....and I'm sure you must be aware of the task that presents!!Add-on AFCAD files also contain most of the information you're attempting to extract, but again, by itself, this type of file won't allow the displaying of that information in the menu you'd like to see it in(the one you've sent the pic of).To repeat, you're going to have to use the World default "go to" menu(s) unless the author of a particular scenery add-on has purposely included this information in one of his own *.bgl files.
December 31, 200421 yr Thanks very much for the info ,thats exactly what i needed to know.At least i don't have to spend more time messing around trying to find out a solution.
December 31, 200421 yr If I understand about what you are talking, you have the addon scenery and it is functional, but is not available as an "airport>go to" option. Many of the cabins in the "Misty Fjords" area are like this. The scenery is there, but there is no option to "go to" them. For such locations, once I am able to find and move my aircraft there, I save a flight to that location. Not quite the same thing, but it does give a functional option to quickly locate there.Hope this helps.RTH
December 31, 200421 yr Your bang on there rhodges ,the way you suggest is the only way to get quickly to these airports. One airport was the freeware maam regional this would of benefited from being in the goto menu.Maybe all scenery developers could take this into account and any addon scenery be available in the goto menu.I know a lot of developers include flights but this little extra option would be so helpful to us simmers in locating the addon quickly.
