Question for those reinstalling the OS when installing P3D 2.0

Featured Replies

For those that have re-installed the OS.. does setting up P3D 2.0 easier if FSX is installed first and add-ons are installed there first? I see a lot of references to FSX installs in the threads on add-ons for P3D 2.0. When I get back from vacation I am about to re-install Windows 8, and just wondered if I should install FSX first (although I anticipate that I will not use it much, especially once PMDG come over to P3D).

Thanks, Bruce.

I guess it depends on what addons you want to use in P3D 2.0. If you want to use addons that somehow need to be installed in FSX and then are linked to P3D (like when you use Orbx's migration tool which btw still hasn't been released for v2) or that need to be copied manually, then it might be handy to install FSX first but other than that... I can't think of any reason why you would want to install FSX first. Most addons, of not all, can also be installed by using various (often simple) tricks or sometimes even straight away.

If you don't plan on actually using FSX, I wouldn't install it. If you run into huge problems with an addon and it needs FSX and you can't do without it, you can install FSX later on anyway.
