January 8, 200521 yr Hi There,I've spent the last week combing through these forums for the problem I suddenly have, and nothing I've tried from the tips I've seen seems to have worked.I've been running fs9 on my WinXP without any problems since fs9 came out. The only thing different since the last time I flew is that the year changed! My system specs:HP Pavilion mx75, Pentium®4CPU 1.60GHz, 1.59 GHz, 512MB Ram, XP Service Pack 1, Nvidea ti4600 card. This has worked happily for me all this time.Anyway, here's what's happening: I can start up the sim, but when I go to fly by clicking the "fly now" button, it comes up with the splash screen and the window that says "loading scenery textures," but the progress bar stays at 0% and goes no further. I have not added any new scenery or mesh since before the last few times I flew. I haven't added anything in some time, except for a few new skins for Cantu's 727. I was running ActiveSky before, but I'd be happy if I could just get it to run at all at this point! I tried the new .cfg file trick, that didn't work. I tried different planes and times of the year to no avail. Another clue may be the fact that it is taking a long time to load, and when I click on anything in the menus, it can take up to 15-20 seconds before I even see the menu options. I'm at a loss guys, and I really don't want to uninstall this thing, but I'm getting pretty close to doing it. It seems to me it must be something simple...but sometimes those are the hardest things to figure out! I have to use the task manager to exit fs9. Another clue may be this: when I have the sim running, (but stalled at the load screen,) my CPU usage is at 100% Below is a shot of the task manager during, and right after ending fs9 with "end task." Does any of this ring a bell for anyone? Any help would be greatly appreciated!Much thanks,Chuck Slusarczyk / AFGhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/102964.jpg
January 8, 200521 yr At first glance, you have an inordinate amount of background processes running for your CPU to handle. Have you tried FSAutostart available here at AVSIM? It includes tips to guide you in shutting down unnecessary programs and services and works especially well with older systems.
January 8, 200521 yr Possibly a problem with a scenery file corruption - endless loop or memory leak - I'd shift all the folders well out of the Addon Scenery inculding the Scenery and Texture folders to another temporary location out of FS9. Put empty scenery and texture sub folders (create new ones) in the Addon Scenery folder and also disable all your added on scenery from the settings in FS9 - scenery library before you start a flight. (Or by use of the FS Navigator database creator if you have it). At least this will show the fault either does or does not lie within the Addon Scenery files. If you still have same problem then you can put all files n folders back the way they were and reactivate from within the sim and we can try something else. Good luck :)
January 8, 200521 yr Thanks Guys,I'll try your ideas out this evening when I get off of work. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks again,Chuck
