January 10, 200521 yr I finally (after several tries) got my FS2K4 to install all the way OK, but now I can't get it to run. I get the opening splash screen with a second dialog box that says that it's "building new database for scenery files.....", the percent loaded shows it loading, it gets to about 74% and then just shuts down completely! Happens every time I try to start the program, even after rebooting the PC.Comments, criticizms, suggestions, etc.?
January 11, 200521 yr Delete it and load it again, next time disabling your anti-virus system.Thats where the problem MAY be.All the best,Dave.'Three greens and soft landings' Dave Taylor
January 11, 200521 yr That's just it - my A/V software WAS turned off at the time (each time I tried to load it).
January 11, 200521 yr If you've tried it all and nothings working, give this a go (you might already have done all this):-Uninstall FS9-Use Disk Cleanup or some other utility to scrub all the junk files from your hard drive.-The defrag the drive from Safe Mode.-Then use scandisk to check for errors (if running XP let it error-check on next boot-up)- If you use Windows XP: Check if Windows is now stable (after the defrag) and all other programmes are running properly. If everythings normal - set a Restore Point.-Try installing and running FS9 now****Back up your data**** before trying the above.Like I said...give all this a go if everything else you have tried has failed.Once again ***Back up your data!**** :)
January 21, 200521 yr OK, I finally got it to run, but apparently, my machine's too slow AND doesn't have enough RAM, AND needs a better video card to get it to run faster - I only get a framerate of about 5-10FPM. But it at least runs, so I'm not going to complain TOO much.Mike
