"Prevent downloads on approach"

Featured Replies

I use Radar Contact (RC)  for most of my flights.   With ASN, I'm still noticing, occasionally, that the wx reported by RC Approach Control for the destination field is not matching the metar reported by ASN.  I have "prevent download on approach" (in General Options) off,  which is the default,  but I'm thinking that using this feature may help RC Approach report the wx that is consistent with the metar.

This feature "will postpone weather downloads when the aircraft is close to the destination airport until the aircraft is on ground".

I'll try it for a few flights and see if it does help.

Anyone else have any observations on this?

I tried a few flights now using the "Prevent downloads on Approach" option, and so far, the wx reported by RC approach and ASN have matched.   So I'm going to continue to use this option, at least for the time being.

I solely run ASN with live weather also, with the no downloads on approach - and have noticed...

1. that the weather in ASN does not match the weather out the window in RL  (NZWP...not a proper reporting station?), and

2. that the ATIS does not report what the actual weather is in the sim...had 8/8th cloud cover and the ATIS was reporting sky clear??

Does it put the weather on 'hold' if you are doing circuits also, and does anyone know why I am seeing such wild weather inaccuracies. At RNZAF Whenuapai it can be blowing a gale and raining outside...and I get a light cloud cover and maybe 12kts in FSX via ASN with clear skies and unlimited vis reported?

Cam,

The only weather stations available for ASN are NZAA, WN and CH. The remainder are by subscription by the NZ met service. Which would make it difficult for HiFi. Australia also has the same problem, and only weather data from the majors are available.

You can use Vatsim, but I prefer not too, as the data is stale.

There has been a few questions raised about this on the official ASN forum, but the devs have decided not to answer this for whatever reason.

Thanks for that Julian, so pretty unreliable real-time weather in NZ then.

Yes having just got back into FSX...I have noticed that the 'head-in-the-sand' approach seems the general way to go for a lot of developers of FSX add-ons regarding problems. Take the money and run I guess...

Shamelessly though...I have to say A2A's customer service is second to none...and the beta testers test new aircraft and core updates tirelessly till they are good to goooo...
