I've been following the threads about the features and future of FS with something of a smile.I "flew" Hawker's simulator for the P1127 (Harrier prototype) in the late 1950s/early 1960s. This sat at the back of the Project Office and had a cockpit built by the carpenters, with a stick, rudder pedals, and throttle box from a scrapped Hunter. It was driven by an analogue computer and the display was a circular 6-inch twin-beam CRT. One beam formed a line from side-to-side of the display to represent the horizon. The other beam was a short vertical line to represent a "tree on the horizon". The test pilots and Project Office staff flew this as the flying control system was developed. That was it - the only simulator used!How times have changed!
