January 22, 200521 yr Hi all,I think it may be a stupid question but i can't answer by myself. When flying online we get atis and metars in the connection softwares (ex. ivap for ivao, ecc...) and in the green upper line in Flight Simulator. But where do real pilots get real atis and metars ? in what instruments? Is it possible to have the same in flight simulation? Thanks in advanceDylan
January 22, 200521 yr Commercial Member In general aviation aircraft like the Cessna 172 you just tune your communications radio to the appropriate published frequency for the airport ATIS and listen to the METAR (which will be slightly different in that the wind directions given via the radio are usually magnetic, while when they are written they are true).
January 22, 200521 yr you get a reliable briefing wherever you can. usually, your country's aviation authority will provide a way--telephone, web or personal contact at the airport. i've even seen an sms system. the web version is probably easiest to use in the sim. as an example, just check out this one (for canada)http://www.flightplanning.navcanada.ca/cgi...on&TypeDoc=html
