DHM stops

Featured Replies

Hi! I'm having some problems with DHM stopping randomly. It seems to work fine from the start, (taxiing, take-off, cruise), but when I start the descent it usually suddenly stops after a little while (I can move the cameras with the keyboard shortcuts again.) Sometimes it starts again and works for the rest of the flight while other times it starts again and works for a little while, stops again, starts again etc. Using the stop and start functions from the menu doesn't do anything and there doesn't seem to be any errors in any logs. I'm using Prepar3D v2.1 and AXE. I didn't notice this problem in Prepar3D v2.0. Any suggestions?

You only get DHM and Bump Aircraft turbulence whilst flying through turbulent air. In the upper atmosphere you can pass through zones of CAT, Clear Air Turbulence. Depending on the meteorological conditions, such as wind and temperature gradients, these zones can be small or extended.

So you should not expect to see DHM motions all the time, only when you pass through or are flying within areas of turbulent air. This behaviour is perfectly natural and realistic. You may even need to climb or descend out of turbulent air to find smoother air, or of course stay put and ride it out until the conditions stabilise at that altitude, which again depends on the actual meteorological conditions.

Hi! Thanks for the answer. So it is working as it should then and this means that Opus is actually not controlling the cameras when it doesn't need to (since I am able to manually control the cameras)?

That's correct. In smooth air there will not be any DHM or Bump Aircraft turbulence so Opus will not be altering the eye point.

If you want manual control over the eye point I would recommend you use the LCC (Live Camera Control) functions as any adjustments inside the sim cannot be coordinated or monitored. You can assign buttons to the LCC functions or use the dialog. Many people assign and use a 6 axis game controller for LCC functions. I use a Sony DualShock 2 game controller which makes ad hoc camera adjustment very easy indeed, even allowing any FSX axis shifts to be corrected in just a second or two.
