March 19, 201412 yr Will FSX run well on my dell optiplex 755 under this configuration? CURRENT CONFIG: 1.8 GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2160 8 GB RAM (Maxed Out) 80 GB HDD (WD SATA @7200 RPM) ATI Radeon HD 6450 2 GB (Memory clocked @ 550 MHz, GPU clocked @ 700 MHz) Windows 7 Professional x64 (64-bit) If not, Please leave me the best settings or hardware recommendations. I am planning to upgrade my CPU to an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 @3 GHz. I also need a good CPU overclocking app because I have a stock BIOS (BIOS is locked from overclocking). If you can, Please leave it here. Please Reply Soon! wizkid27147
March 19, 201412 yr In short: No. Almost any system can run FSX, so in the end it all depends on your expectations, but on your current system it won't be anywhere near what I would consider minimum accaptable performance. The chip you want to upgrade to is the one I used about 4 years back or so, it was quite a nice chip to over clock, but just a heads up, it won't be near enough to expect any eye candy, but will do an ok job if you use the right settings and tweaks. It sounds like your mother board cannot over clock, but it is hard to say with the information provided ,so if you are thinking about upgrading, I suggest you build a custom system.
April 1, 201412 yr Author Dear outofphaze, Can a C2D E8400 or E8500 do work for max settings? I am doing this because I want better scenery as I use fly tampa kai tak and fly tampa dubai. So outofphaze, what was the chip you used 4 years ago? Please note I have a budget of $40 for a new Chip. Any suggestions but a new system is highly appreciated.
April 2, 201412 yr What I meant is that I have a Q9650 before, and it is the strongest chip by intel pre i7 models. So I would certainly go for that one if you have the socket for it. If u have a little bit more money, even a little like 30 bus, get a cheap air cooler, like a cooler master 212 Evo and over clock it a bit. You will see pretty decent performance. How far your settings can go all depends on your add ons. The Q9650 will probably be able to max out a standard fsx. But if you are flying an NGX at an add-on airport with Rex clouds , AS Next weather and ORBX it obviously won't. Also, don't forget that your video card is very old, so it will also be a limiting factor. In that scenario I would expect medium settings, especially in the autogen and scenery complexity.
April 2, 201412 yr Author Dear outofphaze, I bought my ATI Radeon 6450 last year. Another thing is, can a C2D E8400 or E8500 work on Max settings? I know that my NGX runs at only 10 FPS even on low settings. Remember, I only have 40 bucks for a new chip and the q9650 is 107 bucks. How do I over clock without the bios because my bios can't overclock. I am also scared to OC because my computer can get a BSOD. Also, I am running Windows 1945 (just joking =) My computer is the dell optiplex 755 SFF.
April 2, 201412 yr Author Is there any way to squeeze a water cooler in a small case like mine outofphaze? I am appreciating your help right now Oh, by the way can I add you as my friend?
April 2, 201412 yr You are right, I forgot you have a small case. Most likely you will fit a water cooler more easily that a large air cooler, but like you said, you cannot overclock to begin with so it's pointless. The E8500 is also nice, but in fsx the q9650 will be much much better, as you have more cores to work with. Did u check which processors are supported by your motherboard?
April 2, 201412 yr Author Yes I did outofphaze! fsx doesn't use multiple cores efficiently, so it's pointless. yes the e8500 is supported AND the Q9650 is also supported, but like I said, I only have 40 bucks so the e8500 is my only option.
April 3, 201412 yr FSX can certainly use multiple cores if you have sp2. Since you only have the budget for that processor, I guess that answers your question.
April 3, 201412 yr Author How can I add you as a friend outofphaze? Really appreciate your help. I sure wish everything was free.
