FSX Allocate Ram with FPS Limiter

Featured Replies

How would I add more ram to my FSX? I use FPS Limiter to start FSX, so I wouldn't know if that would interfere with anything. Sorry I'm not to descriptive about it, but I just need a quick tutorial on how to do it. If I am not able to do it with FPS Limiter, then just show me how to do it normally. Thanks!

FPS Limiter runs in it's own space and responds to events from the graphics card, so won't take up memory from FSX, but it can't make more memory available. FSX will use whatever available resources your PC has and need not be adjusted. Addons that install .dll files take away the actual useable memory from FSX, and some addons my use up a lot of memory, maybe even too much sometimes. Do you experience some kind of problem?

FSX is a 32 bit program and is limited to using 4GB of memory. Additional programs that run outside of FSX can also use up additional RAM.

That’s right. In the “old days” we didn’t have enough cash for more than 4Gb of RAM, and programs that run in their own process space would compete for RAM. Parts of the process’ storage could be on the hard disk, which would extend your (say) 2Gb RAM, with 2Gb of HDD space. Another program would use some of that 2Gb RAM and you’ll have even more of your process storage on the HDD. Of course now we’ve all got 8Gb+ RAM that’s never really happening with FSX.
