Has anyone got the AFCS on the CH-47 Chinook to work?

I followed the manual, which isn't particularly clear and splits instructions into at least two places, and managed to activate it, but either of the height hold modes cause a nose dive towards the ground (as if 'holding' 0 altitude) and although the heading hold locks the cyclic it doesn't seem to head in the required direction.

What would be really useful would be a step by step guide...
