How do I edit the runway surface material to change the...

Featured Replies

Hello all,I want to edit the runway surface material to correct the excessive rolling friction as most runways use a default concrete surface.A quote from another forum will explain the problem a bit more."Roll friction is hard coded in Sim1.dllIn the German forum of FlightXPress Yves Guillame published some time ago a very detailed description of this. He decoded five tables for five kind of contact points (wheel, skid, scrape, float, and float rudder). Every table has 25 rows for 25 differen surfaces (concrete, asphalt, dirt, gravel and so on). Every row has 3 parameter for roll friction, skid friction and braking coefficient). Yves stated that the wheel roll friction used by Microsoft for concrete (0.5) is the about double of real data (0.2 to 0.3)."Ian

AFCAD 2.21 allows you to do that. Search the file library for itBill

Does this mean that FS9 CAN have a different friction level for the different surfaces? If so, then it must be possible for a wx utility to reduce the friction when rain is present then, correct?Eric

I cant say if it does anything about the friction level , but AFCAD allows choices of surfaces of runways.Maybe I misunedrstand what needs to be accomplishedBill

Thanks Bill, this is what the gERMAN SITE SAYS:"The people who speek German can read the full thread here:http://www.wcm.at/forum/showthread.php?s=&...10&pagenumber=1Yves identified first three tables, later disocvered two more tables and corrected his findings in a following posting. You have to read the full thread. For the other a short help: There are 5 tables for five kind of contatct points. The offset for each table are: code:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Tab. 1 Wheels1) CONCRETE default Offseta) Roll Friction 0.05 48cbc (recommended : 0.02 to 0.03 ):( Skid Friction 0.64 48cd2 c) Brakeing coeff. 0.7 48ce82) GRASS a) Roll Friction 0.08 48cfe :( Skid Friction 0.64 48d14 c) Braking Coeff. 0.5 48d2a...4) ASPHALT a) Roll Friction 0.05 48dc4 :( Skid Friction 0.64 48dd8 c) Braking Coeff. 0.7 48df0...24) TARMAC a) Roll Friction. 0.05 492a B) Skid Friction. 0.64 492c0 c) Braking Coeff. 0.7 492d6--------------------------------------------------------------------------------And this is an example for the actual code for table 1, Wheels, Concrete:code:--------------------------------------------------------------------------------48CB8 840000009999993FC78424880000007B --> 0.05 Roll Friction48CC8 14AE47C784248C000000E17AE43FC784 --> 0.64 Skid Friction48CD8 249000000066666666C784249400000048CE8 6666E63FC78424980000007B14AE47C7 --> 0.7 Braking coefficient--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Yves stated that default roll friction (0,05) is way to strong and he reccomend to reduce it to realisitc 0.02. But this changes the behaviour of all a/c.It would be nice to save the corrected file with a different name like Sim2.dll. In some air. files there is an offest for this. But this did not work for me. I belive, MS has deactivated this line. Many of the new a/c in FS2004 and CFS3 don't have this offset."iAN
