February 17, 200521 yr Hello, ive downloaded a few planes, how the #### do i extract them so i can use them? im using xp pro.ThanksDd
February 17, 200521 yr "how the #### do i extract them so i can use them?"Not a very nice way to ask bro'99 pct. of all aircraft packages are "zipped", although there's a few self extracting exe's. You need a utility to unzip them, and there's many out there, with winzip being the most popular. Aircraft packages can be zipped any number of ways so the only suggestion I can give you is to browse your current aircraft folder and learn how existing aircraft folders and subfolders are structured.-John
February 17, 200521 yr Although I use Winzip for some things, I usually just double click a zip file and XP Home's Extraction Wizard does the rest for me. I assume the same wizard exists in XP Pro. R-
February 17, 200521 yr Hi,1. Double click the zip file to open it and look at it's contents.2. Find the readme file (a .txt or .doc file), and double click that.3. Read it to find out how to install the plane.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
February 17, 200521 yr Good luck, I'm experimenting with the same thing.I downloaded an A321, but had the default 737 panel which impressed me not. Someone came back and said I had to download the cockpit!!Why the plane didn't come with the cockpit surprised me a bit, so now I'm on the hunt through the File Library trying to find a panel that would be compatible...Don't think this process is designed for beginners...CheersTim

February 18, 200521 yr >>4. Realize that Windows XP zip support is buggy, >>Hi Dan,>>I have no idea what you ar talking about. I use it almost>every day and see no bugs. R-Try this. Create a folder. Put some files in it. Create another folder inside the first folder, but leave it empty. Zip the first folder. Then open the zip with XP's zip folder tool. Where did your second folder go? Now, answer the flood of email from lusers, 99% of whom write using no capitalization, punctuation, or spelling, demanding to know why you had the chutzpah to upload such an obviously defective zip file to Avsim.Dan
February 18, 200521 yr Well, that sounds like the voice of experience. I guess that I've never tried that :). R-
