Destination runway heading provided in destination weather breifing

Featured Replies

Greetings

I am wondering if it is possible to include the preferred runway for landing based on wind condtions in the destination and alternate weather briefings.

Having this information readily obtainable would allow approaches to be determined and set up well before ATIS was operative.

Thank you,   WilloW

Unfortunately, details of the available runways is not easily accessible and may rely on what Navigraph data people have installed or require more decoding etc.. But it should be very simple for you to determine yourself knowing the available runways from the GPS and knowing the current surface wind in the on screen weather report.

I think we have looked at this in the past but decided it was information that the pilot should determine. I usually use the surface wind to select an approach in the FMC or GPS which lists all the available runways.

Anyway things aren't so cut and dry in real life. The current active runway might not always be determined until in contact with the ATC. The wind may favour multiple runways equally or the decision might depend on noise abatement or runway slope etc. probably best to guess yourself and accept that, just as in real life, on occasions you may get it wrong.

Thank you for the prompt reply Stephen.

You are of course correct when it comes to vagrancy of real-time flight - conditions change.

I thought it may have been a quick thing to do.  Having this information printed on screen, rather than working out the appropriate runway is just easier   -  although totally inaccurate concerning real life procedures.

Thank you.  BTW, he latest beta works exceptionally well on my system at the moment - some major upgrades have obviously taken place :)

Best, WilloW

Hi WilloW,

Its a good idea but when we looked into it it started to become quite involved. I will be posting OpusFSI Beta Version 4.00.4 this morning with some further improvements relating to generating the Weather Map data, its much much faster now.

Regards

Stephen :-)
