February 22, 200521 yr Hi, just in case someone wants the FS2002 default water movement effect in FS2004, here is how to do it.(That's something I've been wishing since I first installed FS2004. In my eyes, the FS2002 effect was much better than the FS2004 one, even better than any available add-on).It is just a matter of replacing the 64 water_detail*.bmp files in ..SceneryWorldTexture with those from FS2002.If you don't have FS2002, you can still find the default FS2002 files included for backup reasons in oceanfsx.zip (by Ed Truthan), available here in Avsim library. Interestingly enough, in this case you would be downloading an add-on just for the files it is intended to replace :-)It must be taken into account, though, that FS2002 had only 32 such water_detail*.bmp, while FS2004 has 64. However, it simply takes to duplicate them this way: copy water_detail01.bmp to water_detail17.bmp, water_detail02.bmp to water_detail18.bmp and so on, until water_detail16.bmp, which you'd by copying to water_detail32.bmp. Same applies to the files including an (water_detailR01.bmp, etc) which depict the water surface hit by raindrops, until you have a total of 64 files.Remember that then, you will still need to replace your 11 env_*.bmp files (in the same folder) with those you prefer for reflections. My favourite are the "Calm" textures included in fs9watga3.zip (by Lynn and Bill Lyons). Thanks to all who replied to my original question in the previous thread (http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=121&topic_id=240616&mesg_id=240616&page=4), you had me investigating the matter really hard, guys :-)Hope that helps, blue skies.
February 22, 200521 yr Hi Stearman,Yes, you are correct, good advice. However, can I point you to an easier way to accomplish what you are suggesting, and more, by using the GUI provided by OceanFX 2:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...d=163638&page=5Cheers!Mike
February 23, 200521 yr The EASIEST way of all, is to perform a search here in the file library on the following file.classic_water_texture.zipIt is created by Carlyle Sharpe, and makes FS2004 water look much like FS2002 water, with an increase in performance as the textures are smaller.I consider this one of my MUST HAVES, and it's a very small download.

However, can I point you to>an easier way to accomplish what you are suggesting, and more,>by using the GUI provided by OceanFX 2:Mike, there may well be easier ways, but I've been asking for advice on this matter since the release of FS2004, to no avail.Admittedly, many have come out with countless suggestions to improve the way water looks in FS2004, but in the end, nobody has ever answered exactly to what I was asking: how to make FS2004 water look exactly the same as FS2002 water, regarding the water movement effects (nothing to do with reflections then).Fact is I've had to discover it by myself, so I decided to share it in case someone else was wondering just the same. Thanks and best regards,

The file you mentioned contains textures that improve reflections on water, but that's not what I was asking for. Thanks anyway, best regards.
