Improving The Smoothness Of Panning Around The Virtual Cockpit

I use the hat switch on my CH Products yoke most of the time for panning around the virtual cockpit unless I am flying with Track IR. I find the the panning action is not super smooth and almost moves in small steps. This is not a limitation of the PC graphics however as if I use the Spacebar (pressed down) and then move the mouse, the panning effect is super smooth and more precise. Is there a way to make the hat switch react like pressing Space bar and moving the mouse?

I have read that Ezdok might be the solution but that seems to be yet another add on to FSX that requires setting up, tuning and a potential for something else to go wrong, not to mention yet another running application to bog a PC down.
