Static Weather Themes

Featured Replies

I see in the weather options dialog that there is the option to choose a 'static weather theme' but these are always greyed out on my system. Is this something that will be implemented later or is there an error?

It has always been implemented. But the options are always greyed out when Live Weather is enabled. You can also use the Opus Addon menu which will automatically disable Live Weather when a static theme is selected. To use the dialog options you must manually disable Live Weather. Note though, that ALL static themes are very limited, they are never as detailed as any Opus Dynamic Weather Themes. You should always use the Import METARs From File option to create your own static weather using a single GLOB METAR rather than a very limited static theme.

The Import option, even when used with a single GLOB (Global) METAR, will result in creating an Opus Dynamic Weather Theme. The weather will be static or global but the theme will also contain the full range of all upper visibility, wind, and temperature layers. They will also use GRIB forecast data if required. On the other hand, Static themes generally are very incomplete or basic.

Thanks for your detailed response - I get the impression it is a question you have received a few times!

Now need to look up creating METARS...

Thanks again.

A great deal of fun can be had creating your own METARs and creating a number of different Import text files for different weather scenarios. I know others use them for circuit training or practicing in IMC. You can find some example METARs in the OpusWeather.txt file. You don't need any of the remarks section, just the basic information. There's plenty of info to be found on the web. Just replace the ICAO code for the airport with the GLOB code to tell the LWE to treat the weather as global.

Thanks very much

Are there any user created METARs available to download?

You could try some of the sites listed on our links page,

http://www.fourflights.com/#GTO_06ad8aa3

Just copy and paste the METAR string into a text file and then browse to that file in OpusFSX. If you replace the ICAO code with GLOB it will work in any location.

That's great, but the fourflight website is showing up as containing malware and is blocked by my computer.

THanks for your assistance!
