FSX in DX9

In my own experience i can run DX9 on windows 8.1 with only FSX standard aircraft, as soon as i try any add-on aircraft it crashes to desktop so i have to run in DX10 preview but i think this might be only with AMD graphics cards and NVIDIA cards are ok in DX9.
