August 24, 201411 yr Dear Avsim Forum, I am seeking advise as to how I might install FSX resulting in getting rid of the crashes I am plagued with. Below is a description of the hardware and software I have. My PC has it's OS(win 7 64bit) on a velociraptor c: primary boot drive. I intend to install FSX on my D: drive, a 2GB Western Digital with an OCZ 128gb cache using the caching utility built into my Asus P9X79 Pro firmware. I have 2 other HDD's installed, both 5,400rpm SATA drives, 500Gb and 300Gb respectively. Is it best practice to install my add-ons on a different drive to where FSX(d:\FSX) will reside? Should U use the 4GB utility on my fsx.exe file? I have an Asus Radeon HD 7970 GPU, 16 GB RAM running at 1,600GHz, 3 monitors, trackIr 5, Buttkicker, Saitek flight yoke and pedals. I also have a Saitek X52 joystick + Throttle that has a bug in that it causes the mouse pointer to move as if being self propelled. I suspect it is responsible for the blue screens of death I get when it is connected. I want to use the following aircraft add-ons: PMDG 737-8/900NGX with Fs2crew crew, PMDG 777-200LRXF basepack, The following Scenery: FranceVFR PACA Vol. 1& 2, ORBX FTX England The Following airports Aerosoft Nice Côte D'Azur, Aerosoft Monaco X, LFTZ Saint-Tropez La Môle, Aerosoft Mega Airport LHR Aerosoft Mega Airport LCY I want to use the following enhancement packages: REX Essentials Plus Overdrive, Accusim realism enhancer Contrails Pro I would like to use Flight One Traffic 360 PFPX Flight Planner Any advice on how to correctly install REX is of great interest. Any and every advice I receive is greatly appreciated. All the best, Keroseneboy
August 28, 201411 yr Hello, I installed FSX on my D drive rather than the system drive. The main reason I did this was due to lack of space on C, but it's probably good practice anyway, especially if you have a plenty of room on D. I installed most of my addons on D as well. A couple of smaller addons have gone on C like Active Sky Next, but I put the data-heavy addons on D. Best to check the manuals and help of the product you're installing. Rex4 makes it clear that you shouldn't install into the FSX folder. Same goes for VFR GenX I think. OrbX does install into the FSX directory as I recall. On the issue of your crashes. The only time I have had crashes since installing FSX etc is when I've been tweaking some of the graphic settings, so my advice would be if your changing anything in fsx.cfg, just change one thing at a time and make sure the sim is stable before making another tweak. Your system spec looks fine, there shouldn't be any issues there. Hope this helps
