September 4, 201411 yr I find myself flying in the same area constantly, because it's such a hassle to adjust all my OpusFSX camera views every time I switch location.Since FSX's viewpoint is dependent on your position in the world, I wonder if it's possible to adjust all camera views of a specific aircraft at the same time. If so, how would I do that?
September 4, 201411 yr Commercial Member The camera views are not dependent on your physical location. Are you referring to the infamous FSX axis shift problem that plagues some aircraft sims. Quite noticeable on some of the PMDG aircraft (737NGX and the new T7 for instance). This problem is inherent within FSX and has been quite unpredictable hence its not been possible to provide an automatic compensation for the axis shift. OpusFSX and OpusFSI does however offer the best solution or work around in the form of the LCC Live Camera Control feature, especially when combined with a dedicated six axis GamePad Controller such as the Sony DualShock 2 etc.. You will find details in the User Guide. Basically you use the Shortcuts dialog to assign your GamePad buttons and axes controls. You can also assign the Set and Reset Camera functions of LCC to buttons on the controller. Now you can use LCC or your GamePad controller to correct the axis shift and press the Set Camera button. This will save the current offset for that camera which will then be automatically applied each time the camera view is selected. The Reset function simply resets things. I know this process sounds long winded but it is easy to do and remember when in use. In fact it takes no more than a second or two to correct for any FSX axis shift. No need to re edit the camera just to compensate, just a quick tweak using the LCC functions and away you go. So to reiterate, I think you are referring to the well known and rather annoying FSX 'axis shift' bug. This is not a problem with the aircraft sim or the camera software, it is simply an axis shift within the FSX code that can effect your views. Most noticeable when you have a HUD on display. So use LCC to tweak that view back in line, press the Set Camera option, and go fly. As soon as the axis shift has disappeared, some time after takeoff, simply press the Reset Camera LCC function and continue. Stephen :-) P.S. You can also use LCC to simply roam about the cockpit view, float or walk around the aircraft, etc.. This is great fun when a GamePad Controller is used for the LCC functions and axes controls.
September 4, 201411 yr Ah, that's actually what I meant to say with "FSX's viewpoint is dependent on your position in the world." I don't believe that points a finger at Opus. Example: Today I flew KLAX-KLAS, and tomorrow I want to fly LFPG-EHAM. Can the gamepad be used to adapt all views quickly to the new location, or would it be the same as adjusting all views normally?
September 5, 201411 yr Commercial Member The GamePad, I use a Sony DualShock 2 Controller, is ideal for quickly tweaking the view and using the Set Camera function to record the offsets to the camera view. Many users do just that which only takes a second or two. These changes are temporary and do not involve editing or changing your camera views. They just offset the eye point and record those offsets so they can be automatically applied next time you select that view. The Reset Camera LCC function will reset the offsets for the current camera. You can also just use the LCC dialog with its arrow keys and Set Camera button. But the GamePad is fun to use and makes it very easy to tweak the eye point. Also makes it easy to move about the cockpit or aircraft. Stephen :-)
September 5, 201411 yr Commercial Member Actually I use a Sony DualShock 3 GamePad controller and not the 2 indicated above. Stephen
September 6, 201411 yr Commercial Member Yes, it has to be as the axis shift may not effect all your camera views or be relevant to them. The LCC provides a very simple way of correcting for this anomaly within the sim. I would provide an automatic correction if the axis shift could be predicted. The LCC Set Camera function is the next best solution, a fast and easy correcting offset can be applied and quickly removed when no longer needed, which can happen sometime after takeoff. Stephen :-)
September 6, 201411 yr Much appreciated, Stephen. E: Are all gamepads compatible? Can I buy just anything? I'm not sure if they have the same compatibility as mice.
September 6, 201411 yr Commercial Member They all have their own drivers, I can only really comment on the DualShock 3 although others report using other GamePads successfully. You could check our SimForums and search for LCC or GamePads. Stephen
