Small Pauses in both FSX and Prepar3D

Featured Replies

Dear forum folks,

Recently I built a new computer rig as per this forum specifications:

ROG Maximus VI Formula
I7 4770K @ 3.9 GHz
2 X 8 Gb DDR3 2400
GTX 780
Samsung EVO 256 Gb SSD
Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate edition

I was able to get very good frame rates and smoothness during most of the flights, even in heavy sceneries such as Latin VFR Miami with Drzewiecki Miami City and running Coolsky DC-9.

The problem is that both in FSX and P3D V2.3, the system "pauses" for less than half a second at random intervals during the flight.

In a previous rig that I had, I had noted this behaviour when I installed only 4 Gb of memory instead of 8 Gb. As soon as 8Gb were installed , these pauses were no longer present, and in fact this rig (I7 2770 @3.05GHz, 8GB, GTX460)  was running smoother than the current one...

Another detail is that I´m running my simulator in a Samsung LCD TV. My previous computer (equipped with a Geforce GTX 460) was able to run at a 60Hz  refresh rate in this TV. Now, the GTX 780 (driver version 332.21) can´t run this same TV at refresh rates higher than 30H, otherwise i have extreme flickering.

Whenever I try to lock my frames at 30 , my frames drop to less than 15 and FSX turns into a slideshow. I´m only able to run smoothly at Unlimited FPS.

Can anybody help me? I´m abou to throw my new CPU out of the window!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance!

Do you have an antivirus installed ?

Make sure that if you do, you put an exception in to stop it scanning your FSX folder. Sometimes AV software scans software when it loads, as FSX loads textures the AV software scans it and slows the process. FSX then has to pause to load it. Also make sure that it does not scan the drive when FSX is running. Some AV's have a gameing mode.

I have to turn Microsoft Security Essentials off completely to stop pauses.

Thanks for the reply Craig!

I don´t have any antivirus operating.

Since I´m running Windows 7, should I turn only windows defender off?

This could be the Autosave feature of FSUIPC.

Hi ArchStanton! Thanks for the reply. How could I turn it off?

Thanks for the reply Arch. I own an unregistered version of FSUIPC and all saving options are unchecked. Problem persists, even in P3D, which doesn't use fsuipc,...
