Carenado Cherokee 180 Question

Featured Replies

Yesterday I bought the Cherokee 180. Great plane and loads of fun to fly low and slow. Is there anyway to substitute clear windows for the somewhat tinted windows in the Virtual Cockpit? The tint seems to dull even more an otherwise somewhat dull flight sim world. Other products I have bought in the past has had two sets of window panes, one clear and one tinted? PS: I tried to email this to Carenado, but got a message back that their mailbox was full. Shame on you Carenado!

For whatever reason, this remains a "standard feature" of Carenado's planes. The Cherokee isn't that bad actually compared to thier Bonanza - those windows were ridiculously opaque.I don't think you can download a replacement anywhere but if you have Paint/Photo Shop it's quite easy to reduce the tint effect by editing the texture.I don't have access to any of those since I'm currently not at home. If you can't do it and don't find anyone else to do it for you I can have a go at it next weekend, but you'd have to remind me then :)

I know with their V35, there's bitmaps in the texture folder called windowsVC.bmp and ventanint.bmpThey control what is seen from in the VC. The alpha channel controls how clear the windows are. I loaded the bitmap into DXTBMP, then opened the alpha channel in an image editor and applied a darken mask, so that the area bordered by the windows was almost pure black. The result is a very clear VC. If however they have applied any reflections to the interior windows of their current models, then this will no longer work as the alpha channel controls either transparency, reflections, or nothing at all depending on how the part is set up in FSDS 2 (Carenado's design tool).Hope this helps, or at least points you in the right direction.-John

Thanks for the suggestions. I have paint shop pro and will give it a go after work tonight.I do think that Carenado would do us all a favor and offer the option of installing either a clear or tinted VC. I will try to contact them later this week and hope that their mailbox has been cleaned out. Thanks again.

Depending on which version of PSP you have you may not be able to open the Alpha channel. If you use DXTBMP to open the texture you can then save the Alpha channel separately, work on it in PSP and then reimport it into DXTBMP and save.boneshttp://fsaviation.nethttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
