October 12, 201411 yr Hi-I am back to simming after a few years. I have purchased a new high end machine and have installed prepar3d and FSX. Repeatedly after a two minutes or so after take off my system just shuts down. This has occurred whilst flying both the Aerosoft A319 and also on one of the default twin engine prop aircraft. It seems to occur soon after engaging the Autopilot. This does not occur whilst flying a default aircraft in FSX. Does anyone have any clues? Thanks
October 12, 201411 yr When you say the system shuts down, do you mean that the sim just quits and dumps you back to the Windows desktop, or do you mean the computer actually shuts off, as if you had pressed the main power button? If the sim just quits, and returns you to the desktop, might want to post your question in the "CTD" forum. There are many folks there who can help you troubleshoot the problem. If the computer itself shuts down, that could be a more serious issue. It could be a case of having your overclock set too high, or an overheating problem with the GPU or CPU, or a problem with your power supply. You said it is a new build. If you had the computer built by an outside vendor, the first thing I'd do is to open the case and insure that all cards are fully seated in the motherboard slots (particularly the video card), and that all interconnecting cables and power supply output cables are fully connected to their respective receptacles, as things sometimes get knocked loose in shipping. In any case, it would be best to repost your question in one of the hardware support forums. If the sim dumps you back to the desktop, the CTD forum should be your first stop. They will need some details regarding your specific hardware and software. Jim BarrettLicensed Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic, Avionics, Electrical & Air Data Systems Specialist.
