WHY OH WHY DARN CTD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

I solved my CTD's when I adjust my Dim Voltage with Corsair memory. My motherboard had it running at 2.5v when the techs at Corsair recomend 2.8 for there memory. The MB default was too low. Overclocking a CPU is another reason for CTD's. How many of you who have CTD's are overclocking. When you start adding addons and aircraft like the PMDG, Level-D, Scenery, they will bring out the weakness in CPU's and Memory.

Bruce, You are partially right and partially wrong. When you say "I had a CTD at EHAM, but only at certain times of the day and night. At all other times the sim worked fine........... So it couldn't be hardware and it had to be something associated with EHAM". More than likely if you only have a crash in one location then yes it is probably something to do with that scenery but it could still be a hardware issue that is causing the problem. For example the video card, due to a bad driver, could have a problem displaying a certain texture, or a certain texture under certain lighting conditions, or a combination of certain textures at the same time. Maybe there is a certain sound associated with an airport or an aircraft at an airport that will cause the sound cards drivers to choke, there are many possiblities here. My rule is that first I check for duplicate AFCADS, second I check the forums for others that have had similar problems in the same area, next I check the AFCADS to make sure they are without errors. At this point I do not follow a "list", these are some of the things that I try, download a "fresh" copy of the scenery, uninstall the old and re-install the new making sure that everything installs as it should, try a different AFCAD file if one can be found, change or re-install drivers on my video card, change or re-install drivers on my sound card, rebuild the FS9.cfg, verify that there are no landclass files in a directory with a texture folder. There are many things to try and check but to this date I have not found one problem that I have not been able to solve, sometimes it takes a little while, I have the patience though. I guess that what I am trying to say is that you should never discount anything where FS9 is concerned. Multiple times the solution to a problem for me has been the one that I had thought was the least likely. Maybe we as a community should come up with a check list, one that we all can follow when we have a problem. Come to think of it if we did do that and then report back our findings about what worked and what did not it would shed some light on many of the issues that we face. Since we would all follow the same steps it would reveal much data on the best ways to handle problems in FS9. What do you all think??????Best Regards,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
