Opus Networked Questions.

Recommended Posts

Hello

Do you get a fps increase if you install opus on a separate machine ? and can you do this using prepar3d v2.4 ?

Thanks.

No and Opus is designed to run on the actual sim machine with minimal impact, if any, on the sims performance. Both the LC and LWE interfaces operate in real time with direct connection to the sim via SimConnect and no negative FPS impact. Running these remotely would most likely reduce the performance and that's why we have never offloaded them onto a networked pc.

The only time Opus has an impact is when downloading and decoding the extensive GRIB data and that happens once on the ground prior to flight. You also have control over this with the GRIB Background option.

Systems using DHM with very hi res displays may see a very slight FPS hit, but this is due to the sim driving into a very hi res display, you will see the same effect when manoeuvering the aircraft.

Of course both OpusFSX and OpusFSI are fully compatible with ALL versions of Prepar3D.

The above post assumes you have a modern multicore PC that's not starved of memory, the more available cores the better.

Of course I would advise everyone to install the sim on its own dedicated drive, preferably a SSD, and also to never run an AV program whist flight simming.

Thank you for the reply, my current system is a 2600k with 16gb ram and a msi gtx 970, I was thinking of upgrading to a 4970k and a new motherboard and using my old system as a networked machine.

I have just switched to p3d and need a weather engine and do intend to buy opus as a friend of mine recommends it, is opusfsi the version I want ?

Thanks.

Yes, it's the full version of OpusFSI that is needed and best suited.

If you wish you can network your second (current) pc and use it to create a 'No Connection To Simulator' type client. This client can be used to display the LWA geo maps with weather overlays, display weather reports etc.. We will be adding many more client features such as live weather reports in the near future.

Thanks for the advice I purchased opusfsi this morning :) just one last question does the weather radar on the majestic q400 show the weather opus is generating ?

Thanks.

That depends on how it is extracting the wx radar data from within the sim. If it does it itself or via a wx radar Addon then yes. Opus does not provide a wx radar interface.
