visual cues?

Featured Replies

Do pilots in Q400 make use of visual cues in cockpit when turning the plane around the end of the runway to repositionate for takeoff?

If yes how do I make use of them in sim?

Thanks¡

We do cover this in the upcoming First Officer course as we fly out of Southampton Airport which has a runway that requires a 180 degree turn at the end to line up. The bit I can tell you is that the main gear always tracks inside the nose gear, so if you keep the nose out of the grass then the mains will follow. The other thing is that it's advisable not to waste too much runway when you straighten up after making the 180 degree turn. You can always straighten yourself up once you apply the take off power, so do not trundle along trying to find the centreline when lining up.
