How much free space do I need?

Recommended Posts

I have two simulators on my 500GB soilid state hard drive, FSX and Microsoft Train Simulator.

I have about 120GB or about 24% of free space left.  Looking ahead to FTX Norway and Southern California if they ever appear plus other addons I may want I am wondering how much free space I should leave on the SSD.

Some say leave 5 or 10% free, others say 20/25%, I guess it depends on the use of the SSD.

If it´s just a lot of reading and not too much writing of cells, then IMO 5 to 10% free is OK.

Thanks Frosty.  Since my only writes are adding new scenery items I'll use 10% or 50GB.  That leaves me 80GB left for whatever Orbx comes out with next.  Maybe I'll have to look into getting another SSD for my train simulator.  That will free up another 110GB for FSX and Orbx.
