May 9, 200521 yr Hi All,Just registered here. I've used flight simulator before on a different computer with no problems. I've recently bought a new computer and now get a partially black screen which I cannot understand. I have attatched a screen shot below. I've searched the help centre on the microsoft website, and nothing explains this. Hopefully someone here will be able to?Kind Regards,Richard Wylde.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/115762.jpg
May 9, 200521 yr Hi Richard and welcome. What does it look like if you have an instument panel visible? What about spot view? I'm also concerned about the zoom factor. If I set my zoom to .31, it is like looking through bioculars backward. Something ain't right but I don't know what it is. R-
May 9, 200521 yr Okay, I'm attatching what it looks like in spot view and with normal zoom. The first image was with the instrument pannel - infact, that black area is the instrument pannel - if I hover over it a tag opens which tells me which part of the pannel it is. It's all very odd. This is the default plane now (so the black area is larger because its pannel is larger).http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/115780.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/115781.jpg
May 9, 200521 yr Richard,Try to change the check-box for 'Render to texture' on the Hardware tab on Display Settings.Have you installed the latest drivers for your graphics card?Ulf B
May 9, 200521 yr Your first suggestion didn't make a different - but the second one sounds fairly likely. Any ideas on how I check a), to see which drivers I have, and :(, how to update them?Rich.
May 9, 200521 yr I'm downloading the latest graphics driver from the Compaq website so will let you know how I get on.
May 9, 200521 yr Hi allStrangely, I just encountered this same situation over the weekend! At first, I had a problem with a Saitek joystick that I connected, which gave me the "blue screen of death" problem. Then when I resolved it, my graphics screwed up, so I reloaded the graphic card (GeForce MX), and everything seemed fine. And then I updated FS9 to ver 9.1, and Boom...I get this black screen.Tried reloading the graphics drivers, tested DirectX (9.0a), to no avail. Then I removed FS9.1, and I'm back to normal. I wonder if 9.1 is the cause of the problem?RgdsRick
May 9, 200521 yr HiIs MAIN PANEL selected (ticked) from VIEWS then INSTRUMENT PANEL.Just a thoughtRegardsBob Wright
May 9, 200521 yr Richard,Maybe something is screwed up in your fs9.CFG file. Make a backup up copy of it by moving to another folder. The file is found in the folder 'C:Documents and SettingsApplication DataMicrosoftFS9' if you are running winxp from your C drive. If you can't find the 'Application Data' folder, you first have to change a setting in your Explorer to make system folders visible. If the fs9.cfg file is missing, FS will make a new one. You will lose all your settings for keyboard, joystick, display etc. It's a bit drastic but might work. If it doesn't work you may overwrite the new fs9.cfg with your backup file and you will have all your settings back again. Ulf B
May 10, 200521 yr HiI tried re-installing FS9.1 and using the original FS9.cfg, but to no avail. Again, once I removed the patch, everything fell back to normal. The GeForce drivers are the latest versions, and various diagnostics tests were successful.I wonder if there's something I need to change in the Device.cfg file?Rick
May 10, 200521 yr Nope - that didn't work either. I also made sure the pannel was turned on which it is. It is there - because when I put the mouse over it, it tells me which instrument it is. I've put a support ticket in at microsoft games as well so hopefully they'll have some ideas too. If I have to I'll try a fresh install - although I doubt that is the problem.Rich.
May 10, 200521 yr Author Try 'Shift+1' as this combination produces this.----------------------------------------------------------Right, should I do another quick lap of the old Nurburgring circuit with 'GT4' or go flying?Dave T. Dave Taylor
