PC...networked to...XBOX

Featured Replies

Well, after reading all the panic posts here about FS10 being "entirely ported" to the new XBOX (which I don't really think will happen) consider this...With the online capability of the current XBOX (which I am an owner of) wouldn't it be cool if you could network the XBOX 360 to your existing PC.If the new XBOX is as powerfull as it currently seems, could it be used as the driver for FS10 and your PC could run all the other associated software (like Active Sky, ect.).Now I know this may not be the case, but I thought it would be an interesting concept.Being both an current XBOX user and PC flight simulator enthusiest, it would be interesting to know if this might be possible.Currently I still think the best platform for any type of flight simulator is a PC (consoles are for games, not simulations in my opinion) but combining the new XBOX with a PC is still an interesting idea that I have been thinking about since all these XBOX / FS10 threads have began.Happy Simming!Scott :-)ATP/CFII/DA20 Type Rated - Instructor Pilot - USAFA (KAFF), Colorado Springs, CO & at KCOSAOPA #00956593, since 1987Background in Corporate, Airline, and General AviationB.S. It's interesting, but you'd lose lots of the speed benefit of XBox. Remember, most add-ons reside within the MSFS folder structure. I've been thinking about it, and I suspect that the XBox MSFS, if created, will evolve out of the PC but won't entirely replace the product. Chances are, it will be a great advertisment for the PC product for newbies and a quick escape from serious flying for hobbyists. I can bet that most of us would have both if an XBox version isn't dumbed down or otherwise hobbled for the masses. But I don't want to get involved in a lengthy debate having avoided the others, so I'll conclude again by saying your concept is interesting.-John

If FS10 is to be 'exclusive' to the new Xbox, at least through programming, the three CPU's could be assigned different tasks to enable good, efficient smooth running: one looks after all the logic and geometry of the game, another looks after AI, and the third handles ATC, for example, then the graphics core handles all the video. If the graphics engine were 'similar' then maybe existing aircraft, paints, textures, scenery, etc could be transfered via the network to upgrade the sim on the box (handy for those of us who either don't have, or don't want, Xbox Live!). Maybe the PC could also run the GPS or FMC operations, or maybe even handle all flight dynamics and instrumentation of the aircraft in use....And of course, all existing PC peripherals, from keyboard and mouse to advanced USB yolk/pedal equipment would have to be fully compatible. As the new Xbox is boasting USB ports, it would seem logical to assume that PC peripherals would also be usable!Of course, if that type of scenario were planned, then it would make a PC version seem vastly inferior! But of course, we know that won't happen just yet, so I'll look forward to a new PC version, and also to a new Xbox version!

I am getting tired of this conjecture that I see all over this forum. The word is that the X360 will have full PC compatibility (winXP being a requirement), as well as an easy 3rd-party contribution system. So if they move FS to the 360, it won't do anything bad. I hate when people get panicky over stuff that's not even confirmed yet.Daniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpgMember of SJU Photography.
