When I disable LINDA from starting  with FSX, should I still see the transparent screen saying linda has started and ready?

The "Disable LINDA on starting FSX" refers to the starting of the GUI only.  The core LINDA LUA code is initiated by an entry in the FSUIPC.INI file under [LuaFiles] that starts ipcReady.  The message you see is to confirm that the core code initialization has completed.

 

Perhaps the wording on the GUI LINDA setup page should be changed.
