May 25, 200521 yr I've flown by the actual airport (8B1 - Hawthorne-Feather, NH) tons of times. Never have stopped there, but anyway, here I am crusing around in FS and I happened to be near it, so I landed there. Well, first thing I noticed was that it was one of those bathtub airports. So I thought I'd do a quick fix to it. At the same time, I started to find out more about the real airport, thinking I might check it out someday.Well, one thing leads to another, I did find some interesting info on it (an aviation college used to be associated with it (Nathaniel Hawthorne, closed in '89)) I'm going to keep learning about it. Also, I found out the airport location is way off in FS. Funny thing is the coordinates in FS match those of AirNav. But when I look at its location in Worldwind and compare it to the roads of USA roads, its location is way off. Which explains why it's in a bathtub. When I slew to the actual location, the ground there is at the correct elevation.Point is, what a cool thing this FS thing is, just checking things out can really expand your knowledge and give you lots more to explore even outside of FS. So, anyway, I'll be fixing this up and releasing it soon.ThomasN15802KASH
May 25, 200521 yr So, Are you saying that if you use the menu across the top (when in FS9) under world and go to airport the terian appears different than when you slew to the same location? Also, I am unsure of what Worldwind is, if it is a web site must you join it and is there a fee, please? Also, under the site myairplane.com you can pull up sectional charts and approach plates from NACO.Thanks for sharring I look forward to checking out some areas I am familuare with to see if there are some elevation changes ect...Mark.
May 25, 200521 yr Mark, assuming he means the World wind I'm thinking of, it's a NASA program which has satellite pictures of the whole globe. You can download it for free at http://worldwind.arc.nasa.gov/Klas Klas Member of AVSIM's Around the World Race Team
May 25, 200521 yr Worldwind is a free program from NASA and it is amazing. Definately check it out. Search the forums, there's an address for it listed somewhere here at AVSIM.I have no idea how accurate the readout in Worldwind is. When you look at the coordinates of the airport as listed in FS, however, they match those in AirNav. As far as I know, AirNav gets its data from the FAA listings. But when you compare the location in FS with the roads as done by USA roads (which so far as I have seen are extremely accurate) and the location as listed in the display of Worldwind, the location is way off. So my comment was that I don't understand why the "official" coordinates of the airport are incorrect. So, as far as I can tell, the elevations are correct (I am using the freeware FSGenesis mesh). It is the airport location which is wrong, hence, it is in the hills surrounding the airport.Thomas
