' Flying Club ' piper tomahawk

Featured Replies

Has anyone tried out the piper tomahawk on the 'just flight' website? it is available as a free download trial for one month; really just interested if anyone has any comments about the model, that's all.

I downloaded the trial last week. It's not a big package so I encourage you to try it if you're interested. It has a good FDE, good and unique visuals (such as one pilot/two pilot options). It does use mostly default gauges, and I don't know whether those gauges are in common with the real Tomahawk or not. Overall it's a nice package that is certainly worth trying out--I think some will buy it if they are Piper buffs. Carenado still has their freeware Tomahawk lurking about, btw, although it does not have a VC whereas Just Flight's does.-John

(I could be wrong.)I tried the Tomahawk. I thought it was a very good model - not a spectacularly excellent one, but quite nice. If it's representative of the quality of all the aircraft in the Flying Club package, then that package is probably quite a good value. There are Seneca, C152, and Warrior models available from other payware developers, and they may (or may not - don't know, don't have any of 'em) be superior. However, even if they are, are they superior enough to justify buying all of them individually and spending significantly more money than you would by getting the Flying Club package and getting good models of those planes, plus the only FS9 Tomahawk available and some scenery? That's up to the individual, but based on what I've seen and know, Flying Club seems like a good buy. It's on my consideration list.

Thanks for the comments i'll try it out, yes i've tried the carenado tomahawk model in FS2002 and its good, only if you fly it in FS9 the wheels don't turn round and the propeller isn't visible, but i think its to do with not being made in gmax?

I fly a real Tomahawk and find this one pretty good - guages aren't bad compared with the real thing. One thing I don't like is the view out of the front - far too much control panel and very little view. The real one is almost as bad but I would have liked a little bit of compromise for simming. Sure, you can raise or lower the seat - but mine won't stay set if I change views, and you will want to do that a lot to get a decent view.Haven't tried the Carenado one in FS9 - works ok in FS2002 but occasionally locks up in some views.

The Carenado aircraft doesn't work at all well in FS9.I downloaded and tried the JustFlight aircraft and - after installing the aerodynamics patch available through their forums - thought it was nice with the exception of the panel. I wasn't at all impressed with that, the lack of functionality as much as the default gauges, and it made me decide not to get any of the aircraft in the pack.If you are desperate for a PA-38, however, it does seem to be the best out there. :-)Ian P.

"One thing I don't like is the view out of the front - far too much control panel and very little view."At least that's one of those things one can adjust. In the case of the 2-d panel, it's designed in such a way that it slides perfectly out of the way so that only the essential instruments are displayed if you want a better view. In the VC, you can adjust the eyepoint up and back a couple of inches and it will permanently raise the seat and give a bit more outside view.-John

I'll probably purchase this pack. Sure, they use default gauges, but everything else about the aircraft seems great, such as texturing, FD's, sounds etc.
