Second Copy of W7 on Own Disk?

I want to install a second copy of Windows7 on an SSD to see how that performs. However, I am concerned that the existing copy I am running will be badly effected. Also, will the second copy automatically be available. I do have installed a program called IRBOOT (OS Selector) that I used before when I partitioned a disk wo keep XP as a backup.
