Update Win7 from Win XP

After reading numerous topics it appears I can not just simply update from Win XP and have everything in FSX work, correct?? Currently have FSX in the 'C' programs (default) location. So am going to have to reinstall FSX and all the add-ons? Is there a step by step instruction link anywhere for the update I want to do?
