June 17, 200421 yr Why do alot of the Russion aircraft have the windows in the nose. Are these converted military aircraft, or are they designed that way so that they can be used for military aircraft if needed?
June 18, 200421 yr Either :)Some are military aircraft (like the Il-76) also used for civilian duties.Others are civilian aircraft that also have military applications (like the Tu-134).All have been used to take photographs of military installations in Europe, they regularly "got lost" near military bases all over Europe and just happened to find themselves again shortly after overflying closed airspace. That now happens less often than it did before the fall of the WarPac b.t.w..The windows are there for 2 things: navigation (navigator can sit in the nose with a map and check for location of roads, rivers, lakes, etc. as well as use a sextant) and espionage.
