New AMD cards anyone?

Featured Replies

Hi fellow simmers,

I am wondering who will contemplate to buy one of the new AMD cards. There is the R9 390X already on the market and while it is for sure not the fastest it has 8GB of memory.

Then, next Wednesday will be the launch of the Fury X which might be real fast even if it is limited to 4GB of memory.

Would be interesting to see what people think about these cards for both Prepar3D and X-Plane. For example, in X-Plane I am currently almost fully maxing out the 4 (3.5) GB of memory, according to GPU-z. In Prepar3D the average memory use is only around 3GB in complex sceneries. 8GB sounds promising for flight simming.

Looking forward to input over the days and hopefully there are some early adopters. Also, any comparison to the 980ti would be very welcome. The regular sources of reviews and tests don't work with sims so that their results won't help us much.

The Fury X is out and the first reviews seem to agree on that it does not beat the 980ti but comes close. All based on testing it with current demanding games though. Still hoping that someone compares it and the 390X to the 980ti and 980/970 in Prepar3D and X-Plane at 4K because that's my scenario for which I'd like to invest in a replacement for my 970. The way it looks now the 980ti seems to be the best bet.
