Problem with default GPS

Featured Replies

Folks,I'm hoping someone can offer me a suggestion to fix a problem I'm having with FS2004. Using certain functions of the default GPS gauges causes an immediate crash to desktop. When I use the "direct to function", as soon as I start to input the first character of the identifier I get a CTD. If I try to load a nav frequency from the nearest or airport info pages I get a CTD.I suspect that there is something corrupt in the navigation data accessed by the GPS but don't know for sure what is causing the problem. The flight planner works fine and aircraft will follow GPS flight plans without a problem. What I really want to avoid is re-installing FS2004 and the many, many addons I have installed.Any ideas of things to check or specific files to re-install from CD appreciated. Thanks in advance.Jeff Williams (KDCA)

Jeff I have the same problem, did you fix it?Rick

Hi Jeff,If you run the 'uninstall' fuction for FS9 it won't delete your aircraft files! So go ahead and do it, if you want to. I have done it several times and after re-loading the program all my add-on aircraft are still there. You WILL have to run the 'Airac' programs again though, if your using those?Alternatively, A function that I have used many times which is much less painful is 'Start/ProgramFiles/MicrosoftGames/FS9/TroubleShooting/RestoreDefaults.That solves most issues and faults.Good luck and let us know how it turns out please?Dave T. .........On the lovely warm Devon Riviera and active 'FlightSim User's Group' member at http://www.flightsimgrpuk.free-online.co.uk/

Folks,Just an update. I've tried a bunch of things to track this down over the past few weeks and just this evening got it fixed and am pretty sure I found the source of my problem. The offending file seems to be an addon scenery files (ZZZ_Corrected_AFCAD_Elevations) for the Columbia River Gorge scenery. When I disabled this scenery entry my GPS functionality returned. I reviewed the installation instructions for this scenery addon to make sure I installed it correctly and verified that I did. Thanks for the suggestions. The forum search gave me a lot of ideas to troubleshoot this issue. Regards,Jeff Williams
