August 7, 200520 yr Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!Being a loyal fan of the Avsim forums, I crashed and burned with them this weekend. Had to reinstall windows, and lost my entire original windows directory due to stupidity in the process.. When I got windows back, my flight sim files which were on the on the other side of a primary partition were still there, but I had lost the .exe link. I "reinstalled" by putting disk 1 thru 4 in, and not a rivet on any of my addon aircraft was harmed. Went really quick, especially the "decompressing scenery files" part. I reinstalled direct X 9c, but when I went to update FS9 to 9.1 I was told I was there already. When I went to remodify my .cfg for fssound.dll, I saw my backup copy I had made before I lost Windows but the big surprise was the .cfg was already modified. If you ever get desperate and don't want to reinstall a bunch of stuff, it's worth a try. BTW, worked fine for FLY too.Best Regards, Donny:-wave
August 7, 200520 yr Donny,I tried this method earlier and found that according to the update installation, it "appeared" that the update had already been applied. However, the version number of the FS9.exe file was still 9.0-something. I therefore uninstalled the update by running FS9UpdateUninstall.exe (found in the main FS9 folder), and it was then possible to update to version 9.1. Nothing appeared to have been damaged by this procedure.Dugald
August 10, 200520 yr Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I found that out too a little while after I posted. The first clue was an FPS drop due to autogen. I had to reapply my display settings after unstalling and reinstalling the patch, that's all. However, in the 9.1 docs it says the .exe file can be restored by opening the #1 CD and doing something, can't remember what but it's in the docs. That's prolly quicker, but no harm was done my way. If other files or needed guages are corrupted, I doubt just restoring the .exe won't work.Best regards, Donny:-wave
